5 Reasons Why Your Skin Looks Dull

Not all of us were blessed with flawless skin, but every woman dreams of looking her very best. Based on our body’s condition, together with external factors, our skin goes through good and not-so-good times. If your skin has been looking dull recently, here are 5 reasons why it might be happening.

1. AGING

As we progress into our late 20s and early 30s, our skin begins to lose its lustre. This is because fine lines, wrinkles and visible pores create a rough, uneven surface, which cannot reflect or “scatter” light as effectively as young skin. In addition, our skin’s natural renewal process slows down age, leading to dead skin cell buildup on the surface.

ACELABS recommends: Start practicing a proper skincare routine in your early 20s, even before the signs of aging appear on your skin. Our Lumiere Diamond range is designed to give your skin intensive brightening and moisture benefits, made for all skin types and suitable for our hot, humid weather.

2. STRESS

Modern women handle lots of stress on a daily basis – work, studying, family… all these things add up when everything and everybody needs your attention at the same time! Stress doesn’t just mess up your hormones; it also increases your cortisol levels, which affects blood flow to the skin, and in turn, influences skin’s repair ability.

ACELABS recommends: Set aside a specific amount of time each day for “me time” – this means no distractions, and this time belongs to nobody else. Use it to do something you like. A quick workout, a long walk, some time on bed reading a new book… mental health is important for physical health!

3. LIFESTYLE HABITS

Lack of sleep, smoking, and even what you eat can translate onto your skin. In Singapore, it’s easy to get tempted by delicious fried food and snacks. It definitely tastes great, but when all these poor lifestyle habits come together, your body pays the price. And it shows on your complexion as dullness.

ACELABS recommends: Whenever possible, consume fresh, unprocessed ingredients during your daily meals. Try to get at least 7 hours of sleep – rest is important for your body to function in its best condition!

4. DEHYDRATION

Are you drinking enough water? We need at least 2 to 3 litres of H20 every day! If your body doesn’t have enough water, it reacts by limiting blood flow to the skin, which makes your skin look sallow and tired. Long-term dehydration can also lead to long-term skin damage like lines, sagging and dry patches.

ACELABS recommends: Keep a large water bottle with you all day and track your water intake. To make it taste better, you can add slices of fruit.

5. SUN DAMAGE

We all know that the sun’s rays can harm the skin, but how many of us actually take actual precautions to protect ourselves? Over time, prolonged exposure to UV rays can cause pigmentation and dark spots. Did you know? Dark spots are formed as a natural defense mechanism to “protect” your skin!

ACELABS recommends: Use and reapply adequate amounts of sun protection whenever needed. For intensive care, try a powerful brightening ampoule like ACELABS Lumiere Rebalancing Diamond Drop – it contains REAL Diamond Powder for instant radiance, as well as a powerful Probiotic formula that improves skin’s repair ability.
